The tournament, hosted by the South Sound Pickleball Club and sponsored by PIG (Pickleball Is Great), will occur from August 4 to August 8, 2023, at Rainier Vista Park in Lacey, Washington.
The tournament is open to players 50 years old and above as of December 31, 2023. Players can register for up to three events: men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. There are three skill levels: recreational (2.5 to 3.0), intermediate (3.0 to 3.5), and advanced (4.0 to 5.0). The tournament director may combine or split age groups to ensure quality play.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format with playoffs for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Each team will play against everyone in their division, and the top teams will advance to the playoffs. Tennis has similar rules, except for underhand serves and bouncing the ball once before hitting. The tournament will use Franklin X-40 balls.
The tournament is part of the Washington State Senior Games, a nonprofit organization that promotes health and fitness for seniors through participation, competition, and education. Out-of-state competitors are welcome at the Washington State Senior Games.
